The name of the Jazzopen in Stuttgart doesn’t just stand for first class Jazz outdoor concerts, but is also a programmatic committment for the organizer. That is: not only classic Jazz formations find their way onto the three stages at the Pariser Platz, in the Mercedes-Benz Museum and at the BIX Jazzclub. Since its premiere in 1994, the festival repeatedly opened up to other music styles, like Soul, Pop, Funk and even Electronic Music. Examples for this approach are performances by Joy Denalane, Lauryn Hill, the Fantastischen Vier or St. Germain. In 2008 Lenny Kravitz was part of the one-week Jazzopen program within the scope of his Love Revolution Tour. Thanks also to the US rocker the festival established a new visitor record with 26,000 spectators. The heart of the event however beats always at the BIX Jazzclub, where the masters of the genre meet for unforgettable jam sessions.
