Description:
Camber Sands at the coast of the English Channel in East Sussex ist the birthinh place of All Tomorrow's Parties. Barry Hogan, the founder and promoter of ATP got the name from a song by Velvet Underground and the idea from one of his customers. Belle & Sebastian confronted Hogan at the end of the 1990's with the idea to invite all their favourite bands to a big live party. The result was the Bowlie Weekend in April, 1999. One year later, the first ATP festival took place and was curated by Mogwai.
The list of curators is very diverse: For example bands like Portishead or The Mars Volta but also Simpsons creator Matt Groening. Thursten Moore, lead singer of Sonic Youth once described the honorable job as "the ultimate mix tape". The successful concept has made the festival known abroad. In 2002, the US premier took place in Los Angeles. In 2008, New York was the host of an ATP party. In 2009, ATP festivals will not only take place in New York and in Minehead but in Australia.
Since Barry Hogan always concentrates on the music and not on the commerce, the successful expansion is even more remarkable. His sympathetic credo is: "Staying intimate, un-corporate and fan-friendly."
