Gotthard singer in deadly accident
According to international media reports, Gotthard singer Steve Lee (47) was on a motorcycle trip through the USA, when he was killed in an accident on Tuesday (October 5th). About 50 km before Las Vegas, the 21-person Swiss Harley group, with whom Lee and his longtime companion had been riding since the weekend, had stopped in order to put their rain gear on. The trailer of an approaching truck started skidding on the wet road and plowed into the parked motorbikes. The Gotthard singer was hit by one of the Harleys and sustained such serious injuries that he died on the scene of the accident. Only back in August, Lee and his companion were involved in a multiple collision near Florence, in the course of which his girlfriend sustained injuries to her back, whereas Lee remained unharmed.
Gotthard is one of the most successful Rock bands in Switzerland. In their home country they sold one million albums and internationally two million. The quintet from Tessin has had eleven number-one albums to date, one triple platinum album and five double platinum albums. With their current platinum album "Need to Believe" Gotthard had been on tour this year to Moscow and St. Petersburg, Copenhagen and Oslo. Starting at the end of October, the band was scheduled for several concerts in Germany. Next year, Lee was supposed to release his first solo album.
